Vermentino is found primarily in three regions of Italy: Liguria, Sardinia and Tuscany, and in each of those territories, the plantings are very close to the sea. Vermentino from a maritime climate tends to display a minerality or saltiness in the finish.
In Liguria, Vermentino is one of the most important varieties in the region, along with another white known as Pigato. Cantine Calleri Vermentino is from the western side of Liguria, called Riviera Ligure di Ponente (DOC).
Since 1963 Cantine Calleri produces Ligurian typical wines in the area of Albenga (SV), in the Riviera Ligure di Ponente (DOC appellation). Due to the morphological rocky and hilly characteristic of Ligurian coast, the landscape is characterized by terraces, supported by dry-stone walls (“I Muzazzi”), for the cultivation of vineyards. These terraces are not only an important cultural heritage but also a complex system of landscape engineering.
