2003 Arnaldo Caprai "Nero Outsider" - Umbria IGT 1.5L

In 2000, Arnaldo Caprai launched the Nero Outsider project, a wine made from an international grape variety, the result of years of experimentation and research on Pinot Noir aged for fifteen months in barriques and sold exclusively online (note the "@" sign on the label). It was the first Italian example of wine e-commerce created by a producer and in just fifteen days the only one thousand magnums made were sold all over the world to enthusiasts and collectors.

The same project was repeated in the subsequent years and here we offer you 3 (out 1,000) of those innovative Magnum bottles of Pinot Nero (100%) from the vintage 2003.

Few people know that even in the territory of Montefalco, Umbria, already in the last century, land had been planted for the production of Pinot Noir. The proof is that in 1925, at a regional wine exhibition held in Montefalco, 200 samples of wines were presented and one of them was Pinot Nero. Since 1994 the Cantina Arnaldo Caprai has allocated a vineyard of about 1 ha (~2.5 acres) for the production of Pinot Noir.

The Caprai winery and vineyards lie on the hillside below the Umbrian hilltop town of Montefalco. Founded in 1971 by Arnaldo-Caprai Caprai, and now in the hands of his son Marco, the estate has become the leading producer of Sagrantino wines in the region.
