1967 Cantine Villadoria Barolo Riserva Speciale (jute cover)

A bottle of 1967 Barolo Riserva Speciale from Cantine Villadoria. The bottle is wrapped in hessiam burlap, and seal with black wax, and with an italian coin embedded in the wax.

Having begun as a nursery selling rootstock and cuttings to estates in the Langhe in the late 1800s, Villadoria established itself as a bona fide producer of fine Barolo and Barbaresco in 1959 in the heart of Serralunga d'Alba. This example of the excellent 1967 vintage from the winery's early days is still drinking beautifully, as most well-stored '67s tend to do.

Note a light wear to the label and hessian burlap covering. The fabric cap is detached from the bag, and the wax seal is cracked. We cannot guarantee the wax seals will not break further if shipped.

This bottle does not appear to be leaking. While we take every care to pack bottles securely we cannot guarantee that old corks and closures will not leak in transit.

Barolo is a Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita (DOCG) red wine produced in the northern Italian region of Piedmont. Made from the Nebbiolo grape variety, it is regarded as one of Italy's greatest wines, and is characterized by its rich tannic structure, rust-red coloration and 'tar and roses' aromas.

Barolo is required by law to be aged for at least 38 months after the harvest prior to release, of which at least 18 months must be in wood. To gain the classification of Riserva the minimum ageing period prior to release is five years.
