Arnaldo caprai wrote the history of the Sagrantino di Montefalco in Umbria. The Caprai winery and vineyards lie on the hillside below the Umbrian hilltop town of Montefalco. Founded in 1971 by Arnaldo-Caprai Caprai, and now in the hands of his son Marco, the estate has become the leading producer of Sagrantino wines in the region. Sagrantino shows no resemblance to any of Italy's other grape varieties, and is almost exclusive to the region of Montefalco - it is thick-skinned, small bunched and small-berried, but big in every other way: colour, tannins, acids, extracts, and sugars.
This time Caprai he surprised us with a wonderful project, made a limited edition of bottles, where the money that is collected is used to restore the fresco by Benozzo Gozzoli inside the Church of S.Francesco in Montefalco.
CAPRAI4LOVE is a multi-year project that expresses the vision and continuous commitment of the Arnaldo Caprai company in favor of culture as a key element of sustainability. The latest activity promoted by CAPRAI4LOVE contributed to the restoration of the fresco I Grandi Franciscani painted by Benozzo Gozzoli in the church of San Francesco in Montefalco. The fresco depicts three world-famous protagonists of Italian culture: Dante, Petrarca and Giotto, who - to put it in the words of Philippe Daverio - can be considered the "historical sponsors" of Montefalco, the "influencers" of their time. The three portraits of the Great Franciscans, also made by Rojnic in oil on canvas, give life to the series of three labels of this limited edition of Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG.
